David L. Meeks was born and raised in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley. After graduating from Staunton’s Robert E. Lee High School in 1987, Mr. Meeks attended Randolph-Macon College where he earned a bachelor’s degree in political science with a minor in religious studies. He then went on to study public administration at James Madison University where he served as a graduate teaching assistant in the political science department and was inducted into Pi Alpha Alpha, the public administration honor society, in 1994. He earned a master’s degree in public administration the same year.
After working for five years as a reporter for his hometown newspaper, The Daily Newsleader, he enrolled in the University of Dayton School of Law in Dayton, Ohio. While at UD, Mr. Meeks earned a Dean’s Scholarship, was a member of the honor council and was awarded the school of law’s prestigious Public Service Award in 2001.
After graduating from law school in 2002, Mr. Meeks returned to the Shenandoah Valley where he engaged in the general practice of law, including real estate, domestic relations and consumer bankruptcy, and served as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney for Augusta County from 2005 to 2007. He has also served as Treasurer of the Augusta County Bar Association since 2006. He joined Carlton Legal Services, PLC as a partner in 2011 and devotes his practice almost exclusively to representing consumer bankruptcy clients.
Mr. Meeks resides with his wife, Kara, and son, Claybourne, in Augusta County. When not at the office or with his family, Mr. Meeks will be found working in his garden, running or playing racquetball or basketball. Mr. Meeks is also a black belt in Ryukyu Kempo, a style of Okinawan karate.
